Journalist Award Informatics (Journalistenpreis Informatik)

Journalist Award 2011
Journalist Award 2011

Adequately explaining complex informatics topics to the general public is far from trivial. In order to stimulate, honor, and highlight appropriate press and media coverage, we created the Journalist Award Informatics (Journalistenpreis Informatik) with funding from the Saarland Ministry of Science and Economics in 2006. The aim of the award is to honor journalistic contributions that stimulate interest in informatics research, explain technological advances to the general public, get students interested in informatics research, and attempt to provide an informed basis for public discussion on the possible implications of technological advances on our society as a whole. Credibility of the award is established by a distinguished jury, which includes the then-chair of the German Wissenschafts-Pressekonferenz (Union of Science Journalists), the executive director of Science in Dialogue (Wissenschaft im Dialog (WiD), and other well-known representatives of the media and the public sector. The Journalist Award Informatics is equipped with a total of 2000 EUR and is presented annually in four categories: print, radio, TV, and online media.
