Dr. Ivan Titov

Ivan Titov headed the Independent Research Group Machine Learning for Natural Language Processing from October 2009 until September 2013.

Short CV

Ivan Titov studied applied mathematics and computer science at the St. Petersburg State Polytechnic University in Russia, where he received his master's degree in 2003. In January 2008, he obtained  his doctorate in computer science at the University of Geneva, working with Dr. James Henderson, with a thesis on latent variable models for natural language parsing. During his PhD studies, he also did research stays at the University of Edinburgh and at Google Research (New York).

From February 2008 until September 2009, he was a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in the group led by Prof. Dan Roth, where he worked on machine learning methods for structured prediction problems.

Currently, Ivan is as a senior researcher at the Cluster of Excellence "Multimodal Computing and Interaction" and a head of the independent research group Machine Learning for Natural Language Processing.

Research interests

Ivan's current research interests are in developing efficient machine learning methods for natural language processing allowing for theoretically-motivated ways to integrate prior knowledge, leveraging different types of accompanying sources of information, and minimizing unnecessary feature engineering.
