Independent Research Groups

An important strategic objective of our cluster is the qualification and promotion of young researchers. Therefore, our funding proposal included funding for about 20 independent junior research groups as the single most important budget item. Upon acceptance into the program, successful applicants are given the opportunity to establish their own research teams and carry out their own research agenda. Each junior research group has its own budget, giving the group complete scientific independence.

All junior research group leaders have been granted the right to independently supervise their own doctoral and master's students, and the University Senate has just approved a motion to grant junior research group leaders the title of adjunct assistant professor. The necessary legislation to implement this is under way.
