Prof. Dr. Hans-Peter Seidel

Hans-Peter Seidel is the Scientific Coordinator of the Cluster of Excellence. In 1992 he was instrumental in establishing one of the first Computer Graphics chairs in Germany in Erlangen, and in 1999 he became the Director of the Max Planck Institute for Computer Science.

One important characteristic of his work is the development of new algorithms, closely meshing these with the options and perspectives of modern graphics hardware as well as universal consideration of the entire processing chain from data acquisition and modeling through to image synthesis. This integrated view is now referred to as 3D image analysis and synthesis.

The Computer Graphics Department at MPI

Hans-Peter Seidel is a director and holds the chair of the Computer Graphics group at the MPI for Computer Science. Seidel’s group has done pioneering work in the newly-emerging area of 3D image analysis and synthesis, which can be regarded as at the intersection of computer graphics and computer vision. For his work, Seidel was awarded the DFG Leibniz Prize in 2003. Seidel has co-authored some 200 publications in the field, and more than 20 former members of his group have received offers for faculty positions, both at home and abroad.
