Prof. Dr. Hans-Peter Seidel

Hans-Peter Seidel is a scientific director at the Max Planck Institute for Informatics in Saarbrücken, where he leads the Computer Graphics Group. His group has done pioneering work in the newly emerging area of 3D image analysis and synthesis, on the intersection between computer graphics and computer vision, considering the whole pipeline from data acquisition to rendering. His contributions on level-of-detail and multi-resolution modeling with special emphasis on the development of powerful new editing metaphors have shaped the field and have triggered considerable follow-up work. For his research Seidel has been awarded the DFG Leibniz Prize (2003), the Eurographics Distinguished Career Award (2012), and an ACM Solid Modeling Pioneer Distinction (2016).

Seidel has been on the program committee of all major international graphics conferences, and chaired several of these events. He has been on the board of ACM TOG, CGF, IEEE TVCG, CAGD, Graphical Models, Int. J. Shape Modeling, The Visual Computer, and Visual Informatics.

His publication list includes more than 70 papers in ACM SIGGRAPH/ACM TOG and more than 100 papers in Eurographics/CGF. More than 40 former members of his group have received offers for tenured faculty positions, in Germany or abroad.
