Dr. Jürgen Steimle

Jürgen Steimle is head of the Independent Research Group Embodied Interaction within the Cluster of Excellence and the Max Planck Institute for Informatics and visiting assistant professor at the MIT Media Lab.

Research interests

His research interests are centered on how computer interfaces can be integrated more seamlessly with the physical world, in order to enable more effective, expressive and engaging interactions. In his current work, he is investigating interactive computer displays that have the ease and flexibility of paper, printed electronics for HCI and interaction with ubiquitous displays.

Awards

His dissertation was recognized with the Best Computer Science Dissertation Award 2009 by the German Informatics Society, the Swiss Informatics Society, the Austrian Computer Society and the German Chapter of the ACM. This is the most prestigious award for dissertations in Computer Science in the German-speaking countries. In addition, his work was distinguished with several awards at international and national conferences and competitions (ACM CHI, IEEE ICALT, DeLFI, eureleA). From 2002-2006, Jürgen was a scholarship holder of the German National Merit Foundation (Studienstiftung des Deutschen Volkes).
